I have a DVD burner and it will still read DVD+RW's but no longer
DVD+R's even though I made them on this PC AND they play fine in my TV
DVD player.
any ideas?

I have a compaq presario with a HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N combo drive.
Firmware 5.1.2535.0 by microsoft.

That is not the firmware version. Microsoft does not provide firmware
for LG (HL) hard drives. That number is the standard version number of
the Microsoft driver.

Head over to www.rpc1.org for more help and utilities. This is a web
forum site specialised in DVD writing problems.

thanks for the feedback.
I have to ask though how is this forum specialized for writing
problems? It doesn't say that.

The forum specialises in how to make most DVD drives a "region" free
player (Region Free -- can play any DVD movie for any for the DVD
region that the world is divided into.) There are "excellent" and
"knowledgeble" posters who may have already answered you questions.

what am I doing wrong then? All I see in the group name is "microsoft
.. public . windowsxp . hardware"
that's it.

If you were to read my first response, you would see a web site link to
www.rpc1.org. This web fourm specialises in everything dealing with
firmwares, drive flashing, CD/DVD utilities and how to convert most DVD
drives to region-free drives.

OOoooh, I get you. You don't mean THIS forum. You mean THAT forum.
Gotcha. Much thanks again and Happy New Year.
