no logon servers available

I have a laptop that is connected through VPN to my
network. Access to the fileserver which is the primary dc
is not allowed. whenver I try to access it I get the
message Ther are currently no logon servers available to
service your request. Any ideas on what to do here?

VPNs and AD are tricky. The whole basis of authentication in AD is thru DNS
lookups. If remote and coming in thru a VPN, you're probably configured with
your ISP's DNS which doesn't help since the internal AD DNS is where the
answer is, but it causes issues when it's trying to resolve the external IP
to connect.

Best suggestion is to create an entry or two in your HOSTS file of one of
the DCs, such as:

192.168.5.2 dcname.domain.com
192.168.5.2 domain

The above should resolve both methods of trying to connect to the domain.
Give it a shot, In many cases this maybe helpful.
