No "Local Area Connection" on my desktop computer.

On my desktop all I see in network connections is the wireless connection and
a virtual connection from Hamachi. On my laptop I see this too but ALSO Local
Area Connection, even though it is unplugged.

Why not on my desktop? The motherboard has onboard LAN and the drivers for
it are all installed and up-to-date.

According to Microsoft it should appear automatically, but it has not.

I am currently connected using wireless on both the laptop and the desktop
machine.

Thanks

Go to Device Manager and click the "+" next to Network Adapters. What
does it show for the status of the wired network adapter?

Un-installing and re-installing the wired network adapter might fix
the problem.

It says the "nForce Ethernet Adapater is functioning properly" or words to
that affect!

Tried a reinstall earlier and it didn't work.

I'd un-install it and re-install it again.

Open a command prompt window and run "ipconfig /all". Does it show
the wired adapter?

Is anything different if you start the computer in "Safe mode with
networking"?

Any relevant messages in Event Viewer?

Any BIOS settings that could affect the wired connection?
