No IP

I have a network of 2 computers with Win2k. I have given both of them
addresses, but when I use Ipconfig it says that "Media disconnected"
and there is no IP address.I have checked both NIC cards and they are
fine both in Device manager and loopback. Any ideas? Would appreciate
any help.
 
If you connected them together directly without a hub or switch in between
then you must use a "cross-over" cable instead of a regular patch cable. If
you use the wrong one, it will treat it just as if the cable wasn't even
plugged in (media disconnected).
