Hi,

I have 1 AD forest 1 root multiple childomains, childomains are behind ISA
server.

I have noticed that each time the ISA is down the users in a childomain
cannot logon, there is at least 1 DC/GC in each childomain.
Users use roamonmg profile (profiles are in the childomain) and they also
use group policies.

Is it normal for the users in a childomain to not logon when the ISA server
is down?

thx

If there is no local GC that would be normal -- especially in
NATIVE mode domains.

Every AD site should/must have at least one (reliable) GC
configured on SOME domain controller for proper functioning
in native mode -- and efficiency otherwise.

(Win2003 has a work around but it is functionally semi-equivalent.)

It dose not have to do with the ISA Server in way. Are there DNS in each
child domain as well?

yes GC and DNSs in the childomain as well.

I thought you'd be able to still log on w/ cached credentials even w/o a
GC?

Nope -- not to my knowledge -- since cached credentials
only apply when you machine can find NO DC.

Once you machine finds it's own DC then it must play
by the real rules.

My bad. Missed the part that there are DC's available, even is the ISA
thing is porking up.
