Hello experts...

A week ago a brother of mine did something to my parents computer (related to Kazaa) and since that crash they have been unable to get email or access the internet. The are running XP Pro. When they attempt to retreive their email (in both OE6 and MO) an error comes up related to a socket error 11001.

The problem is not that the mail servers are not typed in or correctly in the settings. I am able to ping sites just fine and in the device manager the card says it is operting normally. When I try to access the internet the common "cannot find server" error appears. Any ideas?

I downloaded a cleaner software and already have all of the latest updates from McAfee. I did about 4 different system scans and there are no trojans or viruses that I can find. Their ISP doesn't have a clue what the problem could be. And Compaq has been a BIG help! LOL

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks - josh

Turn off email scanning in McAfee. It provides no added protection.
