You seem to be the expert on Internet connection problems.
I have 5 PCs connecting via Linksys cable router. All
other PCs have connection except mine.
Environmrnt: XP Pro SP1.
Any programs (IE6, Outlook, ... ) would say no internet
connection. Specific message from IE6 is the familiar "Can
not locate server or DNS error). Last time, I had the same
problem and had to re-install XP and ended up loosing all
my files. There must be a simpler way to fix this. Pinging
works OK.
This happened after I had problems installing Kazaa and
had to uninstall it. McAfee gave me a warning saying
Windows sockets protocals changed or updraded, please
reboot. I hope this will help.

sounds like DNS issue. can you ping a public ip like 4.2.2.1? if yes, can
you ping yahoo.com? if not, check the dns settings. you may also want to
check the Winsock status or run winsockfix.
