No internet connection after reformatting Windows XP

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell PC desktop, that i bought in the summer of '06 and I just
reformatted it a couple of days ago for the first time. I have reformatted
Dell computers before with windows OSs (XP included), however, this is the
first time that i have had a problem with something after the re-installation
process.
Using the XP CD that came with my computer and using the Driver Utilities CD
that is created by Dell, I reloaded what I thought was all the necessary
components to get the computer running normally again. Even though I have
done all of that I still can't connect to the internet through my cable
router surfboard.
I suspect, from looking up information online, that i am missing some needed
network driver, but i need to know which one to get in the first place in
order to fix the problem. So, if anyone can help me out in finding the
correct information on the said driver and where to get it.

If you need anymore information regarding hardware let me know and I will
try to update it. I have no problem opening my computer up and looking inside
since i do that a lot to clean out the fan and change graphics cards.

Thanks everyone.

Do you need a special driver for your cable router?

Well when the internet was installed into the apartment we didnt have to put
anything onto our computers. All we had to do was just connect to the router
and it was running. For some reason its not picking up and connection while i
am wired into the router. So to answer your question, no there was no driver
that was installed on the computer when i had the internet set up.

Look on the back of your computer for a sticker with a bar code and a 7
character alphanumeric code. This is your system's service tag. Go to this web
site, enter the service tag, and download the latest drivers for all your
hardware devices.

Drivers and Downloads
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

If you find that installing the latest driver for your network adapter doesn't
fix the problem you might want to try shutting down your computer, router, and
modem. Wait a minute and reconnect the power to your modem. Once the top four
lights are solid green, reconnect the power to your router. Wait till the lights
on the front of the router are solid and start your computer.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you might want to post your question to the
Windows XP Networking and the Web newsgroup.

Good luck
