When I trie to download the film i've made on my digital videocamera, there is no image in my display (where it used to be). When I use previous downloaded scene's, there only shown on the display when I double click them. When I move them to the story board and play the story-board, only the sound of the scene is working, but no image is shown.
I know that it used to work that way, but I don't know what I've altered that made it work no more.

Please help.

Hello there,

Have either of you installed any other "video" related software recently.

Whilst editing in movie maker there is no button to click that would turn
off your display, there would be no point in doing that.

Either my first comment will reveal something or this...

1) Download the FULL versions of windows Media Player 9 and DirectX 9.0b
(Its important that you get the full versions from Microsoft)

2) Reboot the computer and immediately install DirectX 9.0b

3) Reboot the computer again and install Windows Media Player 9

4) Reboot for the final time and try out Movie Maker

Also, this morning I started my computer and tried to continue working on the issue and now I am having issues with Window Movie Player getting hung up. When I do ctl, alt, delete it says the program is not responding.

John

I bought my computer in October of 2003. Wouldn't this version be on my computer or has Windows Media Player been updated since then?

Also, I did install another video editing software (a evaluation version) after I had trouble working with the video using Windows Movie Maker. It didn't work either. It said I needed to convert the MPEG to an AVI, so I followed the programs instructions and converted it to AVI, however it did work either. I have to edit this video tonight for work. I'll try your suggestions.

Should it be as easy as selecting "import to collections" and selecting the MPEG file? I noticed that in the folder that I exported the video into from my DVD palmcorder, that there are several other files, including one with a .mtv extension. Would these files have anything to do with my problem

Thanks

Chad

It does not work quite like that...Windows pumps out updates, sometimes
several at a time almost every working day of the week and if its something
urgent you might get it on the weekend as well. I check for updates around
twice a week...that reminds me....:)

The other software appears to have reported a different kind of
compatibility issue and may not be the issue.

Yes, simply click the import video option in the tasks pane and that
should be it. I can't remember of hand whether mtv is a valid extension or
not, you can check out the FAQ on my website for Movie Maker and File
Types.....just looked for you...its not an importable to Movie Maker file.
It is therefore likely it has something to do with the capture process with
your other software.

The only point worth making is that MPEG's are notoriously bad when used
with movie maker. The reason is that there is no one codec that can be used
for MPEG's, each company that makes one has their own ideas on what's good.
So if you have a codec that is not absolutely spot on, you will get
problems...this because Movie Maker is just like a very spoiled child...you
do it its way or not at all!

I think as a matter of some urgency anyway you should take my earlier
advice about the full downloads and also running the auto windows update
option from within Internet Explorer.

Let us know how you get on with any more updates on the condition...

John - Thanks again for the help. Unfortunately, I was not able to get it to work. I downloaded ULEAD's Video Studio 8 software from the internet and it worked great.
