No Icons

I accidently shut the computer off wrong ... now when I rebooted it up, I do not get any of the icons or log on screen. All that shows is my desktop picture, any advice?

Kathy,

If you can get to the Desktop, right click then left click Arrange Icons By.
In that menu, make sure that Show Desktop Icons is checked. If not, when
you restart, hold down the left CTRL key on your keyboard to bring up the
boot menu. Choose Safe Mode, which will take time to come up, and see if
you have your icons. If so, reboot again and see if they are there.
