I'm trying to reformat my computer , when I do this with the windows
cd-rom by booting with this cd, I get the message that there is no HDD
found. This is strange because when I start up normal I can still use
my C: drive

So I've looked in the bios of my mainboard ( Asus A7V333 ) and there
stood with primary slave and primary master ( wich are set to |auto|
)my 2 cd-rom drives instead of one being my HDD.
I tried to set it to |User type HDD| but I get an error every time I
reboot, with every combination that the parameters are set.

How can I make my bios recognize my HDD so I can reformat my computer?

tnx

The answer, is that you can't...
I suspect your board, has the optonal RAID hardware. Your HD, is probably
attached to this, rather than to the normal motherboard IDE port (and hence
is not seen by the normal CMOS setup). When it boots, the machine loads the
RAID BIOS, which then sees this disk. Assuming you have only one drive, what
is needed, is to generate a floppy disk, carrying the drivers to use the
RAID port as an extra IDE port. Then when you boot the Windows CD, on the
first screen, there is an option to press F6 to load SCSI or other drivers.
Press this. A while latter, the install will ask for the driver disk. Insert
the disk, and then you should be offered the drivers. Select these, and the
install should then see the drive.

Best Wishes
