Hi I did a clean and install with windows xp.....but a message says...no
hard drives present.....so i went into bios....the same there says no hard
drives...but i have two hard drives....all was working ok this morning...any
clues pls

One clue, you did something to wipe the IDE firmware in the
drives. When you say a "clean and install" did you mean to
say you did a clean install or did you do something to CLEAN
the hard drives and then try to install?

Who did the original Windows installation? You may have SATA or SCSI hard
drives which need special drivers. If you did the original install you
should still have the floppy disk you need. If someone else did the install
you will need a floppy disk with the drivers on them. At the start of the
Windows install when prompted press the F6 key and copy the drivers from the
floppy. It is most likely you have SATA drives in which case the drivers
should be on the CD that came with your motherboard. You will probably have
to use a different computer to copy the needed files to a floppy disk.

Exactly what commands and or applications would one use to wipe the ide
firmware of the hard drives? Never heard that one before.

say you did a clean install or did you do something to CLEAN
the hard drives and then try to install?

Hi,

Start from here:

For PATA Hdds, i would suggest you to unplug the PC from the main power.
Open the chassis and check for the IDE cable and 12V power cables.
You may try using other 12V cables for your Hdds to ensure the ATX power
supply is normal. If still no avail, try to use another IDE cable.
Make sure they are all connected firmly at both ends.
For SATA Hdds, check the BIOS setting first and then check the cable
connections.

Hope it helps.

Where does the OP's question say *anything* about wiping the drive's
firmware? I assumed by "clean and install" he meant "hard drive clean up"
as in delete temp files, internet cache etc.
