No gold bar in browser to allow Active X to install

Below is an example of the error messages I have been getting every time I
come to a place online where I need to allow an Active X control to install.

"We were unable to install the ActiveX control 'MSN Photo Upload Tool' from
'Microsoft Corporation MSN'. If you see a gold bar at the top of your
browser, please click it to install. Otherwise, click Install to try again."

I do not have a gold bar across the top of my IE6 so I have no way to allow
it to install. How can I get the gold bar back? The computer was infected
with a virus and I had to do a system recovery to get going again. That put
me back to Windows SP1. I updated to SP2, downloaded and installed all of
the critical updates and everything else seems to be functioning well. The
only other problem I have is when I come to certain pages online I get the
Internet Explorer error: "Stack overflow at line: 106" followed almost
immediately by the IE error: "A script on this page is causing your computer
to run slowly. Do you want to abort this script? Yes No" Don't know if
these things are all related, but would appreciate any help that anyone can
offer.

Given your description, I'd say the machine is STILL infected with
hijackware.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Thanks so much for giving me something to work with. I am definitely going
to try the things you have told me. I know a bit about computers, but am far
from an expert. I didn't know whether I was dealing with improper browser,
firewall or antivirus settings (all of which I have been trying to get
adjusted correctly) or a damaged IE6. Never thought about it being spyware.
I used Hijack This a few years ago, but hadn't thought of it this time
around, so if all else fails. . . . .

Thanks again!
