I have just set up a small form factor box for the home
theatre and used XP home, 2 gig Celeron, 512meg DDR333
and the M/B is based on Intel 82865G + ICH5 chipsets.
The DVD player is a Acer internal. CDs play OK, software
loads and the on board audio seems to work fine. Butt
when I try to play a DVD the software crashes sometimes
immediately other times within a second or so. Have tried
diabling on board audio and using a S/B live card and
also removing AGP riser "ADD" card that adds S-Video. On
one DVD I get an error message about Windows not being
able to play the DVD due to an analogue copy protection
error. Other times just that option to report the error
to M/S. I have also tried WinDVD with the same results.
Can anyone shed some light.

Sometimes I get a similar error message. Essentially, what I discovered is
that the software thought (incorrectly) that my computer was connected to a
TV through the video out, and dvd playing software does not let me play
movies while tv out is enabled on the graphics card. More research showed
that nvidia drivers incorrectly listed my tv video port as connected to a
tv. i uninstalled the nvidia drivers and used the winxp default drivers and
it works. yeah, i gave up some benefits the nvidia gave me, but this
computer was setup for my 3 year old daughter so she does not need the
advanced nvidia drivers.

I have three other computers and none of them have acted this way, so I
don't really understand why it did not work, but I did figure out how to
make it work.
