I have the same exact problem with my general tab, can't
find help -anywhere-

Okay, found the General tab. Found instrustions a few
posts further down this page from Ed. Worked fine for the
general tab, but still working on the right-click menu
and the task manager.

Alright, yes, that did work for my general tab... so
strange, I still wonder how it got that way in the first
place. My situation was exactly like yours, homepage got
arbitrarily changed, when I went to change it back, no
general tab.... hmmmmmm.... that is pretty ratty if
websites do this now as a tactic... Good luck with the
rest of your problems!

Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")
Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")
Next, go to the below location:
