Does anyone know of a resource where I can find templates/masters that
match the following conditions:

* High quality typography.

* Should look good with a white background.

* Absolutely no frills.

Purpose of the templates:

Creation of slides for programming courses.

Ideally, there should be different similar templates to select from, so
that I can choose one that IMHO suites the amount of information that is
going to be presented.

PS: I may use the templates (also) with Openoffice, but AFAIK this
should be no problem.

PowerPoint itself doesn't do what I would consider "high quality
typography." In addition, it relies on the font being installed on the
receiving system. So you'll generally see Arial, Times New Roman, Verdana,
Tahoma in PPT templates.

PPT 2007 does do kerning, which previous versions didn't do. It also allows
you to create outlined text and add effects to text (such as reflections,
etc.)

You may want to consider creating your own template or having one created
for you since your requirements are pretty specific. (Like, what exactly do
you consider a "frill"?)

Those fonts are fine. However, I wouldn't mind if I had to buy an
additional one.

I don't think that kerning, etc. is that important. I'm just looking
for a clean layout where the sizes of the text blocks, fonts, etc. and
their distances are easy on the eye.

Everything that goes beyond black text on white background is a frill to
me. Of course, when it makes sense, I do use colored text and nice
illustrations, but I don't want to have any of that in the master.
