no explorer; winsock lost

I'm pretty sure I have mispelled winsock, but it seems
that this part of the system which would allow browsers
to work has gone missing and we cannot open any browser.
The explorer was on this computer when we bought it and
we do not have any information disks. Is there a way to
recover the missing pieces and get back online?
