In IE it allows you to send mail to yourself when a webpage changes. You
can
find it at tools>synchronize>properties>download tab. Since it is a
Microsoft
function built in to IE, I thought someone here with KNOWLEDGE of IE may
have
an answer.
Which means that Windows MUST go *online* to check if there is a new page.
That means you have to schedule when to go look. Do you have any scheduling
defined to go look? That means there must be a network connection and that
you can reach the Internet? When the check is scheduled to run, is there a
network connection? Is is a dial-up or broadband connection? If broadband,
do you have your firewall, security software, or NIC configured to be
disabled when the screen saver is active? Is the firewall configured to
permit Internet access only at certain times? Do you have a firewall in a
NAT router between your computer and your ISP, and does it have any
scheduling of when to permit Internet access? Is you ISP up at that time (I
had one a long time ago that had scheduled downtime on every Sunday starting
at 3AM)? Did you check if the e-mail got sent? Do you have anti-spam
filtering enabled anywhere? If so, and if it doesn't just delete the spam,
have you checked the other folders to see if the suspected spam mail got
moved out of your Inbox? Do you have your computer configured to go into
Standby mode? Some NICs get disabled in Standby mode? Did you leave the
computer on? Is the computer powered up when you scheduled to perform the
web page check, or might it have gone into Hibernate mode?
Yep, lots of interdependencies there.
