No duplex printing on LJ 8000 DN?

Just picked up an ex-lease 8000DN for home use. It's running OK on an XP
home SP2 network (thanks Warren Block for archived posts!) but won't duplex
print. It has a duplex unit inside which looks OK. I've installed the PCL6
software but this doesn't seem to have a "duplex" option in Properties, so I
have set Duplex=ON from the menu panel. What am I missing?

Does the printer duplex correctly when you do a "Paper Path Test" with Duplex
enabled from tray 2?
Also have you checked the "Duplexing Unit" box in "Properties", "Configure"?

Yes, it duplexes for the Paper Path Test (I hadn't found that one until I
looked up the manual). But it doesn't duplex (either from Excel or Acrobat)
with the duplexing unit box checked from Properties/Configure. The "Apply"
button is greyed out though, so I can only "OK" it.

Still, looks like the hardware is OK!

Try this...go into your printers folder and right click on the printer.
Choose properties from there. You should notice a tab entiteled "Configure".
Click on it. From there you should be able to equip your printer
appropriately. At least I can do that with a LaserJet 4050n, 2300DTN and a
Color LJ2500n, so I'd have to think the LJ8000DN would have a similar
page...

While there, also check your memory configuration. You may not be using the
printer to the best of its ability!

This tab doesn't show up in application programs, so you'll have to find it
from the Printers Folder.

One obvious thing I overlooked. You are using tray 2 or 3 aren't you, from
memory this printer will not deplex from the MP tray.
Are you using the HP driver or the WinXP driver? If using the HP driver are you
using the "Universal" version or the smaller device specific driver.
I recommend the HP device specific driver rather than any other version. Also
it is worth trying the PCL5 driver to see if that makes a difference.

Yep, using tray 2 and the HP specific device driver. I'll try the PCL5.

Tried that already, thanks. It says "Double Sided: Yes" under Features on
the General page, too. I don't see a memory config setting though, but I
will do some more searching.
