No Drivers for ANYTHING?!

I have tried installing a Video Card and followed the vista instructions to
putting in the CD that came with it first (installing the drivers first) and
when I start Vista it asks for the drivers, doesn't find it in the system, or
online. So I located it manually and it didn't allow it. So I put it to the
side (By the way I am a computer technician) I then tried to install a
wireless mouse, (first an intellipoint microsoft Laser Mouse 5000, then a
Logitech wireless laser mouse) it always asks for a driver even though vista
should support this. It can't locate a driver or find a solution online. I
just plugged in a USB stick (Kingston 1 GB) and it also wanted a driver. Each
time it always wants a weird driver; for the USB stick it wants a
(Datatraveler 2.00000 driver) and for BOTH wireless mice it doesn't want a
mouse driver it wants a USB receiver Driver. Can someone tell me why Vista
doesn't recognize products it should just support automatically? This
computer is BRAND new HP. I purchased it from Best Buy (even thought I work
for Firedog Circuit City) two weeks ago. Help me with VISTA!!!! (BTW the mice
worked flawlessly on my XP laptop.)

By the way the Logitech mouse works after I press Ask me again later four
times when it asks for a driver and then unplug the PS/2 Mouse and then plug
it back in. Why won't my vista find drivers?

Do the installation CDs contain Vista drivers? As a computer tech, you
should be able to work out easily enough if they do? You should also know
that hardware manufacturers are responsible for their own drivers, and that
the best place for Vista drivers presently is on the Internet.

Some of your issues might be solved if you delete a driver cache file which
may have been corrupted.
As a tech, you should have no trouble Googling up INFCACHE.1 and reading
what to do.

Forgot to tell you. unplug receiver and install drivers first and reboot the
plugin receiver when told to. If you have/had a problem install then use a
different port to try reinstalling it on. This usually works.

My mind is slow today. The installation info came with the mouse. You must do
it in the correct order as outlined above. "reboot the plugin" should say
Reboot, Then plug in" .

I changed a Video Card on Vista the other day in this manner:
under control panel/programs and features..I uninstalled the old drivers
I shut machine off and changed video cards
I rebooted and let Vista load its generice video drivers............
I then installed the proper drivers for Vista which I had downloaded from
the video card manufact. website

And you repair customers computers how???????????

Installing compatible drivers is a requisite for customer service. Circuit
City must have some huge cracks in it's employment process.

I have faced the problems very similar to you. That is a known bug with
Vista. I found the solution (at least it worked for me): you ought to select
an option "find the drivers on the disk" and browse to Windows/System32 and
press OK.
After that Vista recognised the hardware and installed the drivers.
Thank You.
