No drive letter assigned to ext hdd

Using Home XP. Int. HDD on laptop is failing, so using CMS data xfer kit to
xfer data from old HDD to new via USB port and CMS software.

When new HDD initially plugged into USB port, Windows recognized new hdw,
but hasn't assigned a drive letter to new HDD. Can't proceed w/o that.
