When I am emailed a link to a file on a web server, Internet Explorer 6
attempts to open the file rather than present an option to download or save
the file.
This occurs no matter what the file extension is, even a bogus *.gm1

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

unfortunately the problem occurs on my system, too. I
cannot even download a simple exe or zip-file. If you have
found a solution please post it.

If anyone else knows a solution please post it.

It is really annoying.

Thank you,

Greg,

To get the download dialog box, enable the "confirm open after download"
option for that filetype:

Click "Start" -> "Program Files" -> "Windows Explorer".
Then click "Tools" -> "Folder Options".
Change to the "File Type" tabs.
Scroll down to locate the file type. Highlight the filetype (example :"PPT
Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation") and click the "Advanced" button.
Then check the option "confirm open after download".
