No Dos ???

I get the following error message when I try to run an older DOS program,
which ran fine up until yesterday. Anybody have an idea what happened ?


"The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Close' to terminate the application."

I had a similar problem and repaired the win32 file folder after doing
a Google search with the exact text on the error message. Something
got deleted and needs to be replaced. It is still on your hard drive
in the windows installation or you may need to extract it from your cd.
Should be fairly easy.

Maybe http://support.microsoft.com/?id=324767? This was found by
visiting Microsoft's support knowledgebase site
(http://support.microsoft.com) and search on "windows xp autoexec.nt
suitable".
 
Thats the article i found too. Worked like a charm. I have 2 puters, just
copied the autoexec.nt file from one to the other, I have to learn to use
"Google" more often, its a fabulous tool.

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based
program

This should help resolve this common problem. Basically, you will have to
expand new copies of command.com, autoexec.nt, and config.nt to the system32
folder from the WinXP CD or I386 folder on your hard drive. Sometimes, you
need to create new ones and overwrite the existing ones - the method is
described in the article.

the "autoexec.nt" file in C:\WINDOWS\system32 has been deleted by
syp/malware called "WinAdTools"
go to C:\WINDOWS\repair and copy autoexec.nt back into the system32 folder

go to Add/Remove Programs and search for WinAdtools and remove it, or use
Sypbot - Search and Destroy or Ad-ware

There should also be a copy under the %systemroot%\Repair directory.
