I've heard a lot of people responding with..."use the CD of XP to
install this from the Value Add folder" - but what about those of
us who purchased WIN XP PRE-INTALLED???
I have no disk and am about to get into some partition work -
my data files don't matter as much as the system files/OS...what
would you suggest as a backup method? (I've a CD burner.)

P.S. I've also had headaches from WMP - could only burn WMA
discs from the program - useless on a stereo...when I've tried ANY burning
lately - error: "Interface not registered" with NO online help from MS,
thank-you very much. (I only use my own, purchased CD's, and there's no
copyright prot. checked, either.)

Would appreciate feedback,
Miss K.

Suggestion re: CD burning problem. Try getting the most
recent driver for your CD burner from the manufacturer's
site - not from Microsoft. Sorry I can't be of more help
on this problem.

Comment re: no install disk due to OEM installation. I'm
in this position as well and it's a mistake I will never
make again.

Suggestion re: backup. An image to another partition on a
separate hard drive or CD or DVD

Good reviews. Cheap. Haven't tried it myself yet.

Hope some of this helps.

To change partition sizes without losing contents of drive -

Buy Partition Magic:
http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/

or Bootit NG, www.bootitng.com -- 30-days fully functional shareware.

You may be able to create space in partition C by moving folders to partition D depending on what you have in Partitions C etc etc.

Hidden files?

How to View System and Hidden Files in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;141276&Product=w98

To move programmes you need to uninstall and reinstall through Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs. To move Temporary Internet Files -Start, Control Panel, General tab, Temporary Internet Files, Settings, Move Folder. To relocate Outlook Express store select Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder, Change.

If your My Documents folder is in your C partition then create a My Files folder in your D partition and copy ( not move ) the contents of My Documents to your new folder. Then delete the files in your My Documents folder ( if you encounter problems deleting use Shift + Delete to bypass the Recycle Bin ).

Hope this helps.
