Just bought a new PC with Vista pre-installed and a 4850 graphics card.
Just trying out a few of my old games to see how they run. Now I know
it's old, but I'm trying to get Richard Burns Rally to run (by all
accounts it will run on Vista).
I can install it OK, but then before you run the game you need to set up
the graphics. My card is correctly detected as a 512mb 4850, so far so
good.
However, when I try to run I get an error saying "No Direct3D Device
Detected" then it quits back to the desktop.
Having asked elsewhere, I was advised to install DX9, as DX10 which
comes with Vista isn't backwards compatible, which I did, but still
getting the same error.
Everything else I've tried (The Sims 2 and various expansions, GTR 2,
Medieval 2: Total War, Lord of the Rings Online....) all work absolutely
fine, so I know the card is OK..
Any suggestions?
