I was attempting to update my w2k advance server with
IE6. I was prompted to restart the machine because of a
setup that did not complete. I restarted the machine and
now I cannot get back to my desktop. I have a blue screen
with the mouse pointer.

W2k SP4 running of Dell Server
Also have Veritas software installed.

I tried renaming the SHDOCVW.dll and restarting. Still no
luck

Hi,
You can try uninstalling Internet Explorer 6 since it was the last action
done. Here are the steps:

1. Press Control + Alt + Del, and then press Task Manager.

2. On the File menu, click New Task (Run).

3. Type "control appwiz.cpl" (without the quotation marks), and then press
ENTER.

4. Choose Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 from the list and follow the steps
to uninstall it.

Thanks for your response but it did not work. Nothing
happened, the screen remained blank

I'm assuming that you have the same problem in safe mode? This may be a
little drastic, but you can try an in-place upgrade of Windows 2000. The
steps are in the following article:
