I had upgraded a system with 3 drives in it from W2K to XP Pro. There were
2 internal drives, both SCSI, and 1 externally connected Maxtor 80GB via
firewire. All drives were completely shared and networked when under W2K.
I wiped the C drive clean using Partition Magic to flush the buildup, then
installed a fresh XP Pro O/S. The unit works fine on the C: drive and all
updates were applied.

The problem is that now when I go to access either of the other two drives,
I get a message like:
D:\ is not accessible
Access is Denied

What happened? They were just data drives that I still want access to the
data. I tried moving the Firewire drive to another unit and get the same
error. Please help.

Thanks,
Jim

"Access is Denied" Error Message When You Try to Open a Folder

"This issue occurs because the security ID for the user has changed.
Although you use the same user name and password, your security ID
no longer matches the security ID of the owner of the folder that you
cannot open....you may no longer have permission to open the folder
after you complete the following steps:
.. Before you install Windows XP Professional,
you change the actual location, or target location, of the My Documents
folder to another volume.
..You format the primary partition.
..You install Windows XP Professional."

Resolution is in the article. Good luck.

Bee.
