No custom site icons? (favicon.ico)

For some reason I don't get custom site icons in the Address bar or Bookmark
list (IE6 latest version, Win XP Home.)

I'm trying to test an icon I designed that I want to use on my website, but
I only get the generic icon on every site I visit (custom icons show up fine
on the other platforms/browsers that I use.)

Is there a Preference or Option somewhere that I inadvertently set to
disallow custom site icons to be displayed? How can I reactivate this
feature?

Thanks,
Robbie

To my knowledge (which is limited regarding XP) no. I think these are stored
in the Temp files somewhere, and clearing them can remove the Favicon.ico.
Also Favicons are not always displayed from a site or page even though they
use them. Seems to be an erratic happenstance. There are two tools one is
Favorg and the other is Faviconizer which can manage these Favicons. I have
and occasionally use Favorg, but now do the following method as it is more
fool proof and doesn't have the problems as programs have.

When I see a Favicon, I search for it in the Content.IE5 folder, and *COPY*
it (**DO NOT CUT IT from the respective folder**) to an icons folder, rename
it whateverIlike.ico, and store it there for use as I need it.

I think Favorg ver 1.4 is now only available through PC magazines
subscription of 19.95 per year for access to the ~ 300 utilities they offer
(still a good deal IMO)

Wait...an old site I know of still has a free version of version 1.4 (the
most current)

It's just strange that NO site I visit loads a Favicon into the Address bar
or Bookmark window. I have a laptop running Win XP and IE6 right next to it,
and it loads and displays Favicons just fine on the sites I visit.

It's not important enough for me to go into temp files and copy/paste icons,
I was just thinking it was some sort of option I clicked at some point (or
maybe something in Tweak UI) that disabled these icons from appearing, and
I'd like to get them back.

Yep, I guess it is odd. As I've stated, I know next to nothing about XP and
it's peculiarities (and hope to keep it that way as long as possible). As to
why it does work with one and not the other will remain an unknown unless
someone who is familiar in depth can assist you.
