I have a dlink nic that refuses to pass traffic.
What's happening from what I can see is it's able to pass traffic for
10-20sec upon interface being enabled then craps out, which explains
why dhcp works but by the time I'm able to get command line it's dead.
I found this out by disabling the nic, rebooting, re-enabling. It
grabbed dhcp, I was able to pass 7 pings before it died.
I've tried stack reinstall, driver reinstall, even os reinstall,
switched pci slots.
There's no firewall btw either.

Ideas?
TIA

Try safe mode with networking to see if it works. If it does, then you have a
conflict with a startup driver/program/service which you could troubleshoot by
using msconfig from XP or a similar program. It would definitely be worth trying
a different nic also. --- Steve

Have you tried another nic or drivers?

Also does this happen in Windows 2000 Safe Mode with Networking.
