No Connection

I'm fairly certain this is the correct board now....
I ask this on behalf of someone else. After a electricity cable was rerouted
elsewhere in his house, he started up the computer to get a black screen with
a bouncing block on it that spelled "No Connection". The keyboard triggers no
response and restarting only leads to the same screen all over again.
What is this and how can it be remedied?

Wild stab in the dark?

Make sure the monitor's actually connected to the computer and that the
cables are inserted properly.

Neither me nor the owner of the computer are stupid enough to not already
have tried the obvious. Nothing was changed at the computer anyway.

The power is coming on the computer (lights lighting up) when you turn it
on? The message you're seeing on the monitor is due to it not getting a
signal. If the PC is powering up and there's no signal then what more is it
doing? Can you hear the drives moving, etc? (By the way this is a hardware
problem and not really a Windows problem though there is a hardware specific
group in case you don't find the reason here though that group is
specifically for Microsoft hardware such as keyboards and mice.)

The message you are seeing is telling you that you have no video signal from
the computer.. does the computer 'beep' at least once when it is powered up?

I have similar scenario where the client HDD is gone, and the monitor keep
looking for a Signal, but it can't find it because the HDD is dead.
Just in case try to see if the power supply is Okay and try to hook up the
HDD as a slave to another machine to see if it is alive or not and you can
rescue the Data on it or just eliminate the HDD and look elswhere.
HTH.
Regs,
nass.
