Mister Man

My computer seems to have a problem booting up, as none of the configurations
for starting it are working. Last Known Configuration works for a few
seconds, but like all the others, the computer will just restart. Please help.

A computer can have trouble booting for any number of reasons. Any ideas
at all about why this may be happening? Any recent changes to software,
hardware or configuration settings? See any error messages? Remember: We
rely totally on your description of the problem.

Could your computer be infected with malware? If so, are you comfortable
performing advanced malware removal?

If all the answers are "no" or "I'm not sure," don't despair but do have
your computer seen by a professional ASAP.

I never recommend repairing a computer on your own unless you understand
very well what you are doing. Otherwise, it's easy to make matters much
worse.

The answer to all of those is "I don't know," so yeah, I think I'll probably
get my uncle to look at it, (as he IS a professional.) Thanks for the advice.

Hello,

You mention auto-restarting. This most likely means a blue screen was
generated and the system automatically restarted. Here's how to get the full
error message

Switch on your computer and keep hitting F8 until you get a menu titled
"Windows Advanced Options Menu". If you see the XP loading progress bar, you
missed it and will have to try rebooting again.

If there is only one option in that menu, hit F8 again.

In this menu select 'Disable automatic restart on system failure', Enter,
Enter and you should be able to view the full blue screen error when it
occurs again. Post back the message here and we will be able to help you
better

Note: If there is no 'disable automatic restart..' option, select 'Start
Windows Normally' and *quickly* hit the F8 key for the correct menu to come
out

my suggestion is
the launch with any
xp cd,

click on repair to
initiate the recovery
console.

then at the disk command
prompt run the following >:

chkdsk /p
fixboot

then exit, remove cd
and try your booting
again.
