no comuter icons in my network place

I have setup a 3-host workgroup but no icon - including local host - of any 3 computer is shown on each computer's my network place. I was succesful pinging all 3 hosts' ip address, but pinging the host brings a return of unknown host <host name>.

what could be the problem?
 
Make sure Client for Microsoft Networks, file and print sharing, and netbios
over tcp/ip is enabled on those computers and no personal firewalls are
blocking access to lan computers. --- Steve
