Two computers, XP Pro, connected via router.
I can ping comp.A(192.168.1.175) from comp.B(192.168.1.176) using
192.168.1.175 and also using the computer name, comp.A., and vice-
versa.
Workgroup=GROUP1 is the same on both computers.
Firewall is turned off. NetBIOS installed, anti-virus turned off.
Browser service is running. Same user account on both computers.
I changed the router to 192.168.1.1 and set static IP for both
computers, and also enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

I can share printers and files on each computer, and even map a flder
as a drive on each computer, it even remaps after reboot.

But I cannot see comp.A from comp.B using 'My Network Places'->MS
Windows Network-> Workgroup. I can see comp.B (and the shares) but
nothing from comp.A.

Anyone help me with this? It is the same on both computers.

When I run: Browstat Status I get:

C:\temp\browstat>Browstat.exe status

Status for domain GROUP1 on transport \Device\NwlnkNb
Browsing is NOT active on domain.
Master name cannot be determined from GetAdapterStatus.

Start by removing IPX / SPX from your protocol stack.

Then re run diagnostics. Both "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config
server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, will be useful.

Success!!!!!!

I'm not sure which protocol was causing this, but I had IPX/SPX
running, and removed it, also had Kaspersky NDIS filter Protocol,
which I removed, and also QoS protocol removed, and LPX Protocol (NDAS
software), so I just had the three or four basic protocols running,
and now I comes up fine, and populates My Network Places instantly.
It had to be one of those I removed. Unfortunately, I removed all the
un-needed protocols at the same time, and then it worked on both
computers.

Thanks.

IPX/SPX protocols are mainly for Novell server (versions 1 to 5.)
They have also "abandon" this protocols, in favor of TCP/IP. TCP/IP
is really to "only" network protocol that seems to be needed with XP.

QoS server is mainly for enhanced TCP/IP band-width but it seemd that
you must have switches/routers that also implemet this service.

Well, you got a conclusion, so enjoy. Glad that it worked out. Thanks for
letting us know.
