no compatible CD recorder found

I get this message when attempting to record to DVD drive using Nero,
Ashampoo or any other burning software. However, if I either sign on as an
administrator or run the burning software with administrator rights, there is
no problem. ie the drives are found and correctly identified and useable.
I have removed and re-installed burning software, but the fact that it
happens to all of them appears to point to a rights/access issue rather than
the hardware or unique software.
Any help would be appreciated
 
You are correct, look at the Nero web site for the "rights" fix for the
Nero software. Maybe the "Ashampoo" folks have provided a patch for
their software too.
 
What version of Nero are you using..? Use one burning app, ie Nero or your
choice, multiple burning apps can cause instability issues..

I searched Web about thet message when trying to write to CD, fond many asking, but no soltions.

My experience (XP Media Center 2002, but wouldn't be surprised if in ordinary X\P Pro) is not only this problem but also a common complaint on Web, also without posted solutions of the Windows CD writing wizard insisting that no CD was in the drive.

Using Ashampoo, which also said "No compatible CD") in my non-admin account, I acheived perfect results when in the administrator account.

The Wizard worked better in the administrative account than in the ordinary account, but didn't always work.

I suspect one or both problems might be cured by changing permission of some reistry key for the ordinary account to allow writing, since that cured several other problems with programs, but I haven''t had time to find and test a suitable key.
