My friend is running Windows XP. She cannot install her
modem because the computer does not recognise any COM
ports (only the LPT port for the printer).
I have tried trying to look for new hardware through the
device manager.
Please help!

Thanks

Hi,

Have you checked the system BIOS to see if that port is enabled?

Assuming its an External Modem:

Remove the modem from the PC. Go into your BIOS and Enable the com
[serial] port you want the modem to use. Reboot. Than install the modem
according to the docs.
