After downloading and installing Microsoft 'updates' my
computer is completely dead.
thanks for your help.

Greetings

You will have to provide more information for anyone to provide you with
support.

Hi,
The 'install updates automatically' was checked...was
prompted to re-boot...attempted..then computer unable to
boot with completely blank screen and no power to mouse.

I have experienced many problems with these stupid Microsoft updates, both
on Win2k and WinNT4.0.

I would recommend to anyone not to run these unless they have a problem
already.

Greetings

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Maybe a Repair Install of Windows
XP.

Greetings

If you choose not to install Winodws Updates you are leaving your system
open to attacks over the web.

And if you do install the Windows Updates you end up with a non-working
system.

The problems with some of the Windows Updates have been discussed to death
on the newsgroups. I'm well aware of the exploits to the Windows systems.

Personally I don't have hours and hours of time to spend troubleshooting the
problems that some of these windows updates create. I'm still searching for
a resolution to a problem caused by such an update on my windows nt 4.0
development workstation.

Cheers
