I cannot believe how rude everyone seems to be on this newsgroup.
First, let me point out that you have gotten replies from a handful of
people. Please do not generalize from that handful to "everyone on
this newsgroup."
Firstly, nearly everyone who replied assumes I am a user with no knoweledge
of the risk associated with Beta software and feels they need to warn me in a
partonising manner.
Let me point out two things:
1. You didn't tell us that you had any knowledge at all, and from your
initial message, it sounded like you were probably a beginner. Even if
you weren't a beginner, when replying to a newsgroup message, it's
always safest to assume very little knowledge, simply because that's
often the case.
2. You said you installed SP3. SP3 doesn't exist yet, and what you
installed was a beta version (or RC1) of SP3. Since you simply said
"SP3," without saying something like "SP3 RC1," it's a perfectly
reasonable assumption that you didn't even realize that it's a beta.
What you call "a partonising manner" was mostly people trying to help
and protect you in an area that it appeared you might know nothing
about.
Secondly, although this may be a public newsgroup I did arrive here by
clicking a link within Technet which said "managed newsgroups". On server
related issues people seem a little more friendly.
Many people here read hundreds of messages in these newsgroups every
day and reply to dozens of them. Replies are often short and sweet,
and to the point, simply because there is little time to help people
and also add pleasantries to the messages. That's simply a fact of
life, and has nothing to do with people being rude or unfriendly.
Despite what I say in the paragraph above, you *did* get at least one
particularly rude messages. We are all individuals here, and it's
certainly true that there are some who are rude (or even worse). But
once again, please do not ascribe one person's rudeness to all of us.
