Install: I unplugged everything on my PC and then removed my old CPU
(AMD 18000+). I then installed the new CPU, afterwards applying the
Heat Sink silicone compund that came with my new cooling fan. The
fan/heat sink by the way is a good one (Volcano 7+ from Thermaltake)
which is made for the 2600+ CPU. After applying the heatsink and
plugging all the connections, I powered up the PC. What happens is ,
the monitor/screen stays in save power mode and never comes alive.
Then after about 5 to 10 seconds, the computer simply shuts down. No
beeps, nothing. The fan has three settings and it is on high. I
tried removing the cpu and reapplying the compound and then
reinstalling both the cpu and the fan/heat sink. Same issue.
I tried various other troubleshooting methods trying to eliminate
other options however it all seems to point to the CPU. The reason I
say this is I can install the old CPU and fan/heat sink and the PC
comes right up and loads XP. I tried switching fans/heat sinks and
that wasn't a problem. All works fine expect when I install the new
CPU.
Other specs: Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP and I did confirm
with Gigabyte prior to buying the chip that the board will support it.
Already contacted company I purchased CPU from for an RMA. Just
wanted to run it by here to see if anyone had any other suggestions.
