I recently purchased a new motherboard, It is a PCchips M848alu, and
the bios needed to be upgraded. So I went to their website and read
how to do it. I followed the instructions and I had to make a boot
diskette with the file to flash the bios and put on a new one but
something happened in the middle of the process and i had to restart
and now nothing happens when i start excep it just keeps beeping over
and over and nothing will show up on screen. I dont know what is
wrong. I tried clearing the cmos with the jumper and it still didnt
work. Can anyone help me?

This group is for hardware issues within the XP operating system. The BIOS
has nothing whatsoever to do with the OS, and vice versa.

Just out of interest, why did the BIOS require upgrading? Just because you
saw that there was a newer one on the PC Chips website? You *NEVER* flash
the BIOS unless it is absolutely necessary and then you don't do it unless
you know what you're doing (which you obviously don't).

If shorting the pins didn't reset to default, and removing the battery
didn't work either, then your only option is to send the board back to PC
Chips and have them reset it for you. IMO, it would probably be cheaper to
purchase a new board - I mean, let's face it, it's not exactly cutting edge
anymore...

Sounds like your bios flash failed. If PCchips cannot help
you, you might be able to buy a new bios chip from
http://www.badflash.com .

Now you know why you should NEVER flash the BIOS unless it is
absolutely necessary. You've scrambled the instructions that were on
the chip so they can't be read - meaning your computer has no idea
what it should be doing when it first boots. That's what the beeps
are trying to say: "I have no beeping idea what to do now."

I'm afraid you either need to replace the BIOS chip itself, or
purchase a new motherboard. You need to decide which is better and/or
cheaper.

Future reference: It's a good idea, when flashing BIOS, to have the
computer on a UPS so power dropouts don't cause failures like this.

Also: This has nothing to do with XP. Try posting in a more relevant
group.

I hate to say this but you are going to have to replace the Mobo all
together, bios might have sent a bad signal that that could fry Your
North or south bridge.
Have you taken it to a Computer Technician yet?

Learn to post (and snip). Why are you telling NobodyMan - he doesn't need to
know!

If it was a "New" motherboard you'd think the BIOS would be pretty much a
recent one anyway.
