A colleague is trying to switch on Automatic Updates on
his PC. When he goes to the Control Panel then System
tool then the Automatic Updates tab he has a message
saying that the Automatic Update service is not
available. He is logged on as an Administrator user on a
stand-alone PC and has internet access. I cannot see any
reference to this problem in the FAQs or Support Centre.
Any ideas please?

Thanks,
GP.

Hi

Try this:

Star>Run - and then type in "services.msc" - without the quotes. Make sure that the 'Automatic Updates' Service is running. If, not right click on it and select 'Start'. Have a look in the 'Startup Type' column - it should be set to Automatic. If it isn't right click on it, select Properties and then set the Startup Type: drop down menu to 'Automatic'. You will to reboot the PC for the change to take effect.
