I checked with Linksys and just updated the firmware
to "1.45.10, Apr 15 2004." The Router is a BEFW11S4V2,
and uPnP is enabled. I should add that I have WinXP with
SP2 and am using a wireless network connection to the
router for one computer. The second computer is hard
wired to the router.
After upgrading the firmware, I got the audion to work,
however, I had to disable the firewall. Even then, the
process was hit and miss and after disconnecting the audio
conversation, MSN Messenger was dead slow.
I also went to jonathon's site where i read his article
concerning ports which need to be opened for MSN audio to
work. I disabled PC Cillans's Firewall and enabled the
Windows Firewall, and opened the 14 ports suggested by
Jonathon. Again, using audio with MSN was hit and miss
and caused MSN Messenger to slow to a crawl.
I am not sure if audio with MSN is supposed to quirky or
if I still need to adjust some settings. I would also
like to know if I need to open the ports manually as I
have with the XP Firewall. I find it odd there are so few
references to correctly setup MSN audio on the web. My
only conclusion with the lack of resources I have found is
that this thing should be simple an self automated,
however, I have had and continue to have a difficult time
getting it right.
Thanks for the interest, any suggestions would be
appreciated.
