Brand New HP Multimedia w/ XP Media Center. Movie Maker
will not get sound from video source (Video Camera) I know
it's not hardware as another movie maker program gets both
video & audio fine. Suspect drivers.

Any Ideas??

I have the exact same problem. I have a Windows Media Center PC and
connected two different video cameras (one analog, one digital) to the
composite video/audio jacks on the device. I get the video just fine but I
don't get the audio.
I can't figure it out. I updated the TV capture card drivers to the latest,
but it made no difference.

Additionally: My HP comes with ShowBiz movie maker and
works fine. It uses the Conexant 2388x driver for both
video and audio. Whereas MS Movie Maker uses the
Conexant 2388x for video and Realtek AC97 for audio. It
does not give you any other choices.

If this is an analog camcorder, then you need to check that the Line In
isn't set to Mute (which is normally is by default)..... click on the Volume
Icon in the Systray. When the screen appears, you'll see various different
'sources' for the sound. Click on Options, then Properties. Click on the
Recording button...... Ensure Line In is checked. Then click on OK. Now on
the screen, you'll see the Line-In control..... The Mute checkbox will be at
the bottom of that column. UNCHECK it.

Cari - The line-in was already enabled on my computer. I suspect that this
is a bug in the software. It has something to do with the fact that the
audio is coming from my TV Tuner card on my media center pc. The audio
controls that your email mentions control the sound card audio. The
composite a/v on my PC comes through my TV Tuner card, but the card isn't
listed as an audio device in WMM 2.1.

Today I bought a firewire cable. That worked around the problem, but
doesn't give me a solution for my older analog video. Is there a process to
register this as a software bug?

I've tried this route before. But I gave it a thorough
run through again and still no luck. It's funny that the
other software works fine with the audio. But it uses a
different driver.
