When I insert a DVD in my DVD-RW drive, the movie plays but there is no
audio. I have checked the controls for the RealTek HD Audio Manager and
selected "line out", but no success. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Inside your PC there has to be an audio cable connected from the player to
the MOBO, consult your user manual.

Not any more.

It has been years since this cable was required.

All audio is now read digitally from optical drives, via
the IDE cable.

His problem lies elsewhere...my first step would be to
uninstall/reinstall his DVD player software.

If this is true my apologies I have not worked with the latest and greates
equipment, socket 478 a cable must be hooked up.

When you suggest that I uninstall/reinstall my DVD player software, are you
referring to the RealTek HD Audio Manager? Sorry, I am drawing a blank here
as to what you mean.

When you play a DVD, it's the app used for that...

PowerDVD, etc. Look for it in Add/Remove Programs.

Make sure you've got the registration number, etc, and the
CD to reinstall it before you uninstall.

Did this used to work OK then stop? Added any new
software lately or let Windows Update automatically screw
over your computer?
