i rebooted my computer earlier this week and there is no volume control by
the clock in the lower right hand corner. whenever i try to play a song in
windows media player it would pop up an error message saying that something
is wrong wit my sound device and that perhaps its not even installed. i go to
sound control through the control panel and it says no audio device. please
help, i need this fixed quick in order to work on a documentary project due
in 2 weeks.

I have, more or less, the same problem. When I open iTunes (I can't use
windwos media player either) I get an error message saying that there are
problems with my sound configuration. When I go to sound control through the
control panel it says "No Audio Device". I've had this message before but
restarting the computer a couple of times somehow solved the problem. Can
anybody come up with a better solution?
Please!

Disable system restore, reboot, run your antivirus, then enable system
restore.

Download the latest XP drivers from your manufacturer's website and then
uninstall your soundcard.

Reboot and let XP recognise it.

Install the downloaded drivers.

Cheers,
