No Audio Device?

My speakers worked just a few days ago, now they do not. When I went to the
support center, my computer didn't recognize that the speakers were plugged
in. The only sounds I hear are beeps that seem to come from inside the
computer (this happens when sound usually should come from the speakers).
I'm pretty sure I downloaded the latest sound drivers, but I can't find the
CD that came with my speakers. The BIOS may be the thing that is messed up,
but I don't want to change anything without professional help.

Any help is appreciated.

Open the control panel, click on sounds and audio devices in the classic
view, click on the audio tab... What's listed under the default sound
playback device?

It says that there is no playback device. (It's greyed out)

That likely means that your sound card's driver is not working. The easiest
method to fix this would GENERALLY to simply remove it and reboot. If it
worked before and you've not made any changes that's likely the issue.
Additional ideas would be to update it from the manufacturer's site. Try
that and hopefully it's nothing more than that. As for the speakers - you
shouldn't find a CD that went with them? I've bought a number of high end
speakers and never once needed any software to use them.

On my other old computer, I plugged the speakers in there and they worked
fine. I went to the manufacturer's site and installed new drivers. They
still don't work, so maybe it has something to do with the sound card?
