No Aero for ATI 9550?

According to the online lists I've read, Vista officially supports the ATI
9550 videocard. And while I know the card is no spring chicken, it suprises
me that it rates a lowly 1.0 on Vista's performance rating system.

I just downloaded the newest drivers from ATI and re-ran the performance
check, and it's still the same. Is there anything I can do to enable Aero?

Before you ask, I'm not running Vista Home Basic.

Which exact make and model is it? I have a Gecube 9550 AGP 8x with 256MB
and it scores over 3. Does your one use any shared system memory? How much
memory does it claim to have?

My Video is showing 2.0 and I have Aero and a ATI Radeon 9550 / x1050
Series AGP.

Driver is 8.333.0.0

Vista Ultimate x86

Correction. I hadn't refreshed the ratings since putting in that card. It
now shows 3.6 for Aero graphics and 3.3 for gaming graphics. Overall the
computer (1 gig ram) has a 3.3 rating.

I have the same problem with my Radeon 9600 on Via KT600 based mainboard.
GeekUnit, what chipset do You have in your PC?

How much main memory do you have? Since if your card is set up to use 256MB
of shared memory there may not be enough main memory left for Aero.

I've got 1GB of RAM installed on my machine. So I should try upping my
shared? How can I do this?

No you don't need any more shared Aero only requies 128mb of onboard. If
you only had 512 of Main memory I would have suggested lowering the shared
to 0.

I'm suspecting that your real issue may well lie in your motherboard chipset
drivers. It might be worth contacting the manufacturers support and
enquiring as to whether they intend to have Vista drivers for the mobo
chipset.

Well Im sorry you are having the problem but also glad Im not the only one.

I am running the Radeon X1950 pro, AGP 8X, 512mb on a VIA PT800 with 3 gb of
system RAM, 3 ghz P4 processor and a WD 74GB Raptor.(all 32 bit) For
performance I get

CPU = 4.2
Mem = 4.2
Game Graphics = 1
Aero = 1
Drive = 5.9

I am a gamer so it did concern me at first, thinking maybe I had a bad video
card, but Ive been able to run all my games with graphics turned up and with
no problems so I believe its just something with how Vista tests the card and
how the software for the card works.

I did download the latest Vista drivers for my chipset, but still the same
thing. Sounds like we'll be waiting for an update.

In another thread I came across a post that said if you have DDR2 ram that
you must have it in pairs in order for AERO to work. Ie a single 1GB
DDR2 Dim will not work but 2 512MB DDR2 dims will or 2 1GB Dims will . I
have no absolutly no idea why this is true

I changed motherboards on mine and now get 5.9 graphics and 5.8 video.
Everything is running great.
