Im using windows Vista, office xp, outlook 2002.

Problem is my address book is empty.
When i click on 'show names from the' its empty.

i tried doing this:
click tools, email accounts, view or change existing directories or address
books.
theres 2 names. outlook address book and personal address book. both MAPI
type.
for both options when i click 'change' the following error message occurs:
'this email account cannot be configured. Please run outlook and choose this
profile before attempting to make changes to it'
when i click 'add', additional address books, the same 2 options are there.
outlook address book and personal address book
when i click either one and click 'next' the following error message occurs
'the account you have added is not fully configured. It might not work
properly until reconfigured correctly'
also, when i open properties for contacts, click on outlook address book
tab, the 'show this folder as an email address book checkbox is not clickable'

please help! thanks

Remove the Outlook Address Book. Restart Outlook. Add the OAB back in. You may need to restart Outlook one more time.

Thanks but didn't solve it cos was some other problem.

I found out that the problem that my personal folder file which i took from
my old computer was actually a text file with .pst extension. eg ***.txt.pst.
I dont know how this happened. This was creating the problem. The file could
be opened in outlook but wasnt actually viewed as a personal folders file but
a text file.

I had to create a new profile and import my emails and contacts separately
by comma separated values.
