no access to microsoft etc

I use IE6.0.2800 and happily surf the web untill I try to access
'microsoft.com' or 'aol.co.uk' and a few other sites important to me. In
these situations the browser stops with the message 'waiting for
microsoft.com' '....aol.co.uk' and just sits waiting until it gives up
trying. can anyone help before I'm completely bald.

Make sure the browser is set to allow cookies.
