XP prof at home. after installing and running spy tool.
I could activate internet explorer (I've admin account),
but my wife couldn't activate internet explorer (limited
account). She's getting "error encountered, notify
microsoft" error message. Spy tool must have deleted her
internet reference file or something. I could get to IE
fine. I tried to delete and recreate her account but no
luck. What should I do? Thanks.

Did you try to recreate her Internet Connection?

If deleting and creating a new connection for her does not resolve the
issue, try using System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when you
used the spyware removal tool. Afterward, you can run the tool again but
try to be more cautious about what you allow it to delete. Many such tools
have an undo function of which you might avail yourself as well. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

I have had the same problem ever since I installed and
deinstalled Norton Firewall on my Windows XP run laptop.

My problem is that the only thing I can do is connect to
AOL and read/send emails. I can't browse the Web in any
form whatsoever.

I tried system restore, but it didn't fix this one
problem. My suspicion is that the com port has been
corrupted.

Any ideas?
Thanks.
