No A4 Page size with Windows Image Acquisition

Using Windows Image Acquisition to scan using an HP
Scanjet 6300C

No option appears to exist to select an A4 (297 mm x 210
mm) page size - though there are lots of others including
Japanese several Postcard sizes!

What happened? How can one correct this rather obvious
deficiency?

The sizes info you are getting is from your printer, not your scanner. Can
your printer print A4?
